Adapted from Mozart’s “Musical Joke, ” K.522. The imitative, birdsong passages, according to Luis Baptista, “mimic the starling’s natural propensity to intertwine whistled tunes . . . and their tendency to whistle ‘off-key.'” Originally written for six instruments, the musical fun may now be shared by six hands at the piano keyboard. The pages are configured such that all three intermediate level pianists may read from the same score.
