Henry Purcell was the first English composer to write multiple works for the trumpet. His orchestral writings are filled with interesting trumpet parts but no work is more famous to trumpeters than this Sonata. The manuscript was discovered in 1950 and has been one of the most frequently performed and recorded pieces in the trumpet repertoire. This is a version of this piece arranged in B-flat concert. It facilitates performance on B-flat trumpet rather than piccolo which makes this popular piece accessible to more quintets. For the original key please order BQ25199.
