Carl Reinecke (1824-1910) was both the student (Mendelssohn, Schumann, Liszt) and teacher (Grieg, Janácek, Bruch) of composers much more famous than he. Also a conductor, pianist, and professor, he led the Gewandhaus Orchestra for over 30 years, and taught at the Leipzig Conservatory for 35 years. TRIO, OP. 188 was written in 1887, a fully mature work, with wonderful diagogue between all three instruments.
