Three Hunting Songs

Because the modern French horn is the descendent of the hunting horn, composers have often used the horn to evoke images and sounds of the hunt. There is a characteristic style associated with the hunt, and hence with the horn, including 6/8 meter and certain rhythms and intervals. Three Hunting Songs includes pieces adapted from Schubert’s lieder. Two of them are in the style of horn calls and the other a contemplative hunter’s serenade. They can be played separately or as a suite.
