Sonatina was commissioned by a mother as a birthday gift for her son. Since the composer was unsure of what types of music he liked, he decided to try to write something in the style of Mozart. The piece is written in a typical sonata movement form and features quite a bit of interplay between the flute and piano. Light playful articulated passages combined with a steady rhythmic piano part makes this an ideal piece for a good high school or university player.
