Inspired by the music of Sade, a popular singer in the 1980s, this serene Latin pop jazz original, “Shades of Light,” features a cantabile, lyrical theme. The melody calls for a cool, mellow execution supported by tenuto accompaniment figures. The solo part should be interpreted with a good rhythmic pulse punctuated with popular music inflections. Arranged for saxophone quartet (SATB/AATB).
