Musical miniatures are among the typical forms of the 19th century. In contrast to monumental creations for the opera stage and concert hall, these small-scale compositions proceeded from the idyll of bourgeois salons. In this volume some pieces of that genre have been compiled for violin and piano, their purpose and meaning being the pleasure in music-making. Of medium difficulty, the pieces are suitable for music lessons, pupils’ performances and ‘Jugend musiziert’ competitions, but of course also, as was their original purpose, for musical entertainment at home.
