Schubert’s famous Trout Quintet of 1819 holds a special place in chamber music, loved above all for the variations of its fourth movement based on the composer’s song The Trout. It is coupled here with the less well known Adagio and Rondo concertante for piano quartet, written in 1816, when the composer was nineteen, at the request of the Heinrich Grob, brother of Therese Grob, whom it seemed that Schubert might have hoped to marry.
