Orbits by Emily Howard is a contemporary work for Soprano Saxophone and Crotales. It is cast in two equal length movements that are thought of as contrasting ‘Etudes in Dynamical Systems’. Orbits is a result of the close work with mathematicians Lasse Remp-Gillen and Alexandre DeZotti, who created two different sets of mathematical data, to which the two movements respond musically. It was first performed by scapegoat, Joshua Hyde and Noam Bierstone, on 17 November 2015 at The Foresight Centre, Liverpool, as part of the Leverhulme Artist in Residence Presentation.
