Originally conceived as a piano duet in 1908 and later arranged for orchestra in 1911, this popular set was inspired by the 17th-century fairy tales penned by Charles Perrault and Marie Catherine Aulnoy. Some of the compositions are preceded by excerpts from the corresponding fairy tales.
