Koechlin (1867-1950) was an extremely prolific French composer in virtually every genre. In the 1930s, he became fascinated with motion pictures with sound, and also became obsessed with film star Lillian Harvey. Conceived as 89 different vignettes for piano and other instruments, Le Portrait de Daisy Hamilton is a thinly veiled tribute to Lillian Harvey. Published here for the first time.
“The pieces are short, generally two pages or less and are in simple AA or ABA form. The notes are easy to read since the print is large, clear and uncluttered…There is a nice range of unusual harmonic progressions, chord structures and pianistic techniques. Most important, however, is that the students enjoy playing these fun and ingenious pieces. The included CD is outstanding.”–American Music Teacher
