I Leap Through the Sky with Stars

Contemporary Canadian composer Alexina Louie was commissioned to write this piece for advanced solo piano by the Canadian Arts Council for the Canadian Music Competitions 1991. It is based on a Zen poem and shows her uniquely personal and expressive style which is rooted in a blend of east and west. The piece has light, shimmering sections that require an agile pianistic touch, as well as forceful hammered effects in the lowest register.
