Written as either a fun or serious performance piece, this work incorporates several well-known and familiar classical melodies associated with the macabre and creepy. For a more serious program, Pieces Macabre is offered by the arranger as an alternate title. Included themes are Johann Sebastian Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D minor, Modest Moussorgsky’s Night on Bald Mountain, Charles Gounod’s Funeral March of a Marionette, and Edvard Grieg’s In the Hall of the Mountain King.
